De Doelen Grote Zaal

Concert Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest & Jörgen van Rijen

Guaranteed trombone spectacle in the Great Hall of De Doelen on June 14. The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (RPhO), led by the young Finnish conducting talent Tarmo Peltokoski, gives a memorable concert with a soloist role for Jörgen van Rijen. Together with the orchestra he will perform the world premiere of a piece by the Peruvian composer Lopez-Bellido.

After the break, hope and fear, desire and resistance alternate in a swirling current that inexorably drags you along. Because perhaps it was a secret love that gave him wings, or else the relief over Stalin’s death – the fact is that Shostakovich wrote one of his most inspired symphonies with his Tenth. The piece has an important role for the famous Rotterdam brass section.

This concert also focuses on the farewell of director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, George Wiegel, the founder of the New Trombone Collective and mentor of many successful trombonists worldwide.
