Mark Boonstra grew up in the culturally versatile Sneek, and moved to George Wiegel’s Rotterdam trombone class at the age of 18. Amidst the other top Dutch trombone talent, he developed into an all-round bass trombonist. He is deployable from musical and big band to symphony orchestra and chamber music. Since 2003 he has had a permanent position with the Brabants Orchestra, now called Phil Zuid, and from August 1, 2024 he will start a new musical adventure with the North Netherlands Orchestra.
A musician with always a lot of energy and full conviction, with an eye for cooperation between colleagues, audience and environment.
Mr pBone
Since the first school project at SF 2013, he has been traveling around the country with a bus full of trombones. Every year he teaches thousands of children to play the trombone and gives workshops at schools, music festivals and sporting events. Adults also go crazy as soon as they come into contact with our wonderful and magical instrument “the trombone”, formally known as “sliding trumpet”. On YouTube he answers questions from young trombonists and conducts research as Dr pBone.
