Martin van Hees is a classical guitarist, composer, teacher and artistic director of The
Hague Guitar Society. As a performing musician he toured with ‘the classical guitar project’
through India, Greece and Thailand to raise awareness of the classical guitar. This
is also one of his missions as artistic director of The Hague Foundation
Guitar Society with which he has started the Hague Guitar Series and Festival Gitaar aan de Sluis.
He often collaborates with other musicians, including violinist Floor le Coultre and
ensemble Kluster5; a group that focuses on newly composed music and
gave concerts in Georgia, Switzerland and the most important halls in the Netherlands. The guitarist
recorded 8 albums including 3 solo recitals and a special album that focused on
new music by Dutch composers. He is a welcome and frequently played guest
at NPO Radio Klassiek. After graduating from the Royal Conservatory of Den
In Haag he received an award for his contribution to contemporary music.
He won several prizes at guitar competitions in the Netherlands, India and Greece. Are
personal focus is on connecting people through the guitar and via
composed or improvised music. He was described as “a musician with…
outstanding musical expression”.
