Nymphéas Trombone Quartet

At the end of his life, the French impressionist Claude Monet painted a number of works that are collectively called the Nymphéas series (water lilies). The shared love for French impressionism ensures that the trombonists of the Nymphéas Trombone Quartet wear this name with pride.

The quartet consists of Niels Jacobs, Wilco Kamminga, Arjan Linker and Tim Ouwejan, who met in 2015. From 2018, the four studied simultaneously at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in the renowned trombone class of Jörgen van Rijen, Pierre Volders, Remko de Jager and Bart van Lier. Due to a strong musical and friendly connection, they decided to form the Nymphéas Trombone Quartet together shortly afterwards.

The quartet performed at the Prinsengracht Concert, in the Concertgebouw, at the Grachtenfestival and on national television at Podium Witteman and the AVROTROS Spring Concert. In addition to the many performances, the quartet has also recorded a CD with French impressionist work and Dutch new music with electronics: Orange, Blue and Pink. The members of the trombone quartet hold permanent positions in the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and the Ballet Orchestra. In addition, they are regularly active in, among others, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Netherlands Wind Ensemble, and independently undertake projects with their own ensembles and initiatives such as the Nachtlicht Ensemble and the Sweelinck Brass Quintet.
