A festive evening full of virtuosity, humor and trombone spectacle.
The Gala Concert of the ninth Slide Factory Trombone Festival is exemplary of everything the festival stands for: the broad repertoire, world-famous soloists, a diversity of styles and artists, a theatrical approach and of course lots of trombones. The men of the New Trombone Collective, together with international festival artists, provide a festive evening full of virtuosity, humor and spectacle.
The New Trombone Collective itself brings musical surprises, with Sasha Romero (USA) and Eijiro Nakagawa (JP) taking the stage. In addition, the NTC, together with the young soprano Elisabeth Hetherington, is presenting a new program about the place of the trombone in vocal and religious music, God’s Trombones. This is inspired by the collection of poems of the same name by American poet James Weldon Johnson. He explained the title as follows: ‘The trombone is the instrument possessing above all others the power to express the wide and varied range of emotions encompassed by the human voice — and with greater amplitude’.
