Since 2005
Since 2005, The New Trombone Collective (NTC) has been working on a tradition of trombone festivals called Slide Factory, in which Rotterdam is the global focal point of trombone music. The festival includes an extensive concert program with the absolute top from the trombone world as well as special education and participation projects for amateurs and (very) young talent.
International
The festivals in the period 2007 – 2015 confirmed Slide Factory’s name as a festival where things are ‘happening’ in the trombone field worldwide. All editions attracted many visitors to De Doelen, from all corners of the world, from Japan to Ecuador.
Famous artists
In 2017, the NTC organized a four-day festival at a new location in Rotterdam, the Wilhelminapier. Guest soloists included ‘friend of the festival’ Christian Lindberg, Randall Hawes, Mike Svoboda and trumpeter Eric Vloeimans. With more than 12,500 visitors, many special concerts and a unique educational project for children, the festival was an overwhelming success. In 2019, the NTC organized a day full of trombone in Rotterdam. A light edition of Slide Factory with two international top trombonists Ian Bousfield and Mark Nightingale. Unfortunately, the 2021 edition could not take place due to the corona pandemic.
Festival atmosphere
The international trombone world always eagerly awaits a new edition of Slide Factory, as is evident from the many questions we have received in recent years as to when the next edition will take place. The awareness of what a unique affair Slide Factory actually is, both for the audience and for the members of the NTC and other trombonists, remains strong. We are therefore taking advantage of this realization to organize another wonderful three-day festival in De Doelen in Rotterdam in 2024. The ninth edition is rock solid again!
