Masters in Concert: Hawes and Björkman
Bass trombone player Randall Hawes from America is a professor at the world famous Northwestern University in Chicago. In this city, a method of brass playing has been developed in the second half of the last century, which is still known worldwide as the Chicago school. Hawes is one of the disciples of this tradition, which assumes a singing style of playing. Where many trombonists perhaps try to impress the audience with playing as fast, loud, high and low as possible; Hawes convinces with intimate and melodious playing.
Hawes shares this concert with the virtuosic Swedish trombonist Håkan Björkman. Bjorkman plays in the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and is very active as a soloist. Björkman combines lyrical and sensitive playing with devilishly tricky technical highlights. Spectacle assured!
